Our Chapter

Epsilon Rho Beginnings

The Epsilon Rho Chapter of Alpha Phi was one of the first three sororities colonized on the UC Davis Campus in 1973. The colony began with a group of 24 pledges, whose signatures can be seen in our charter.

At first the chapter met at various apartments until Peggy Williams, a chapter member, offered her house as a permanent meeting place. The highlight of the charter group's pledgeship took plave on February 8, 1974 at the Lambda chapter in Berkely. On that Saturday our first Epsilon Rho pledge class was initiated and our charter installed. That night an initiation banquet was held at the UCD Faculty Club in honor of the initiation. The toast mistress was Patty Cook. Betty Mullins Jones, then the Alpha Phi International President, delivered the keynote speech.

Our chapter was installed at the El Macero Country Club with parents, friends and Alpha Phi alumnae in attendance. As Betty Mullins Jones presented the charter, she also announced that Epsilon Rho had just put down payment on their new home at 327 Russell Blvd. At that time Alpha Phi was the only sorority on campus that owned its own chapter house.

Since then the chapter has grown to become what it is today. We are extremely proud to welcome our new members to our chapter each year, and to assist them in leaving their own mark on Epsilon Rho's history.
