Friendship
Going Greek is a great opportunity to make new friends.
You will get to see the 8 NPC chapters and UC Davis and, if you choose
to do so, join one of them to be their lifetime sister. You will
grow to know your sorority's history and work toward you initiation while
becoming closer to your sisters. Dinners, study groups, meetings,
and all the activities you are invited to take part in will allow you to
become acquainted with sorority life. You not only gain a chapter
full of friends, but also new sisters. They are there to share in
your experiences - rejoicing in the good times and helping you through
the difficult. The rewards of being a member of the Greek community
are priceless.
Scholarship
Academics are a point of pride for every sorority at
UC Davis. The Panhellenic G.P.A. is higher than the UC Davis all-woman's
G.P.A., an achievement in which all sororities take pride in. In
order to encourage these high academic standards, sororities use different
tactics. These strategies include study hours, study groups, lists
of chapter tutors, and scholastic incentives. Each chapter uses a
different combination of these methods and more. Many chapters offer
scholarships through their national headquarters for women who achieve
scholastic excellence. Overall, scholarship is an important aspect
of sorority life and by taking advantage of a chapter's methods one can
begin a college career with great grades.
Leadership
There are numerous ways to get involved in Greek life,
in the community, and on the UC Davis campus. Everyone has different
interests and there are a wide range of organizations that cover all of
these interests; some of these are involvement in individual chapters,
Greek Week, Panhellenic, and Associated Students of UC Davis (ASUCD).
Getting involved is a great way to learn about new and diverse types of
organizations while attaining a strong leadership background for future
opportunities and success.
Philanthropy
The Greek community takes pride in helping and caring
for others in need. This activity is a wonderful opportunity to help
various clubs and organizations as well as getting to know other men and
women in the Greek community. Each individual sorority and fraternity
donate their time and funds to a special philanthropy of its choice.
There are a variety of organizations supported by UC Davis sororities,
such as Aid to the Blind, Women of domestic violence, and Court Appointed
Special Advocates. Service has always been a strong point of the
Greek community. Continuing to learn and grow while helping others
is a cherished tradition of sorority life.
